As progress in medical treatment, death rates from cancer and cardio-vascular disease have decreased 30% during the past ten years.

However, during the same period, the mortality rate from dementia has increased 40%.

Worldwide, it is said that dementia will be the most important indicator as the cause of death in the future.
Dementia is different from senile deterioration as it defines only the abnormal degradation of capability.

Symptoms are declining ability to calculate, reduced judgment, forgetfulness of words, agnosia, etc.

For example, it is a natural symptom of aging that one may forget the kind of side dishes served at lunch; however, it is a symptom of dementia that the experience of having lunch itself slips from one’s memory.

Dementia is categorized as initial stage, middle stage, and latter stage – by the progress of the disease.

In latter stage, patients cannot recognize family members and lose the ability to live by themselves, and they need the constant and total care.

There are two types of dementia, vascular dementia and denaturation related dementia.

The former, is caused by the blockage of blood or resulting from another disease ; the latter is caused by a disorder of the cerebral nerves and the most typical example is Alzheimer’s disease.

In 2014, Dr. Szu-Ming Chen, a Taiwanese scholar, announced the results of the study in which Ganoderma lucidum improves the indications of Alzheimer’s disease.

He experimented with 500mg/kg doses of aluminum oxide being given to experimental mice for five months which caused cranial neuropathy – the basic recognized condition of Alzheimer’s disease. He did this with four different groups of mice.

The experiment was done with four groups of mice which were to find a resting spot in water :

1) A normal mice group which were not given aluminum oxide;

2) A mice group which received a dose aluminum oxide and were also given extract from Ganoderma lucidum;

3) A mice group which received a dose of aluminum oxide along with an extract of alcohol;

4) A mice group which were only given Aluminum oxide.

The results of this experiment were :

1) The normal – or control – mice group – they were able to find the resting spot relatively quickly;

2) The mice group which were given the Ganoderma lucidum were a bit slower in finding the resting spot;

3) The mice group which were given aluminum oxide and the extract of alcohol were even slower to find the resting spot;

4) This mice group behaved strangely and were the most unsuccessful in finding the resting spot.

Because of this, it was shown that Ganoderma lucidum improved memory and the power of judgement.

And, providing Ganoderma lucidum to Alzheimer’s mice for two months showed significant improvement in their ability to get their memory back.

Next to be studied was the blood circulation of the hippocampus in the brains of mice.

This controls memory and learning ability and the hippocampus were scanned to determine the speed of blood circulation and the related supply of oxygen and nutrients.

The speed of the blood flow is directly correlated with ones intellectual ability. In the study, the blood flow between the four groups indicated that group 4 mice had a significant slowdown of blood flow.

The mice given Ganoderma lucidum had the same blood flow of as the normal mice.

It is clear that Ganoderma lucidum contributes to the improvement of blood flow in the brain.

Regarding the content of brain neurotransmitters, Alzheimer’s disease lowers the content of neurotransmitters, and the signal transmission in the brain is considerable diminished.

By giving Ganoderma lucidum, the amount of neurotransmitter activity increased remarkably.

By scanning the cedrebrovascular organization :

1) The normal mice group showed a close line up which means the oxygenation of brain cells and the supply of nutrition is sufficient;

2) The Alzheimer’s condition mice group – which were given Ganoderma lucidum extract – had less cerebrovascular than the control;

4) The mice group resulted in a cavity in the cerebrovascular.

By these experiments, when the Ganoderma lucidum extract and alcohol extract are given, the condition had noted improvement of the disease toward a more normal level, not only improving memory power and recognition ability, but improving the speed of blood flow in the brain, blood viscosity and the circulation of the blood and neurotransmission.

As a follow-on, the mice group that had noted improvement by the providing Ganoderma lucidum were again tested. At the eighth week, these mice showed noted improvement and their condition closely matched that of the mice without the Ganoderma lucidu.

It has become clear that Alzheimer’s conditions improved by Ganoderma lucidum.

It is cleat that to improve Alzheimer’s disease one must continue to take Ganoderma lucidum and make a habit of it!

光華 – KOUKA 300錠(30日分)

KOUKA is a processed food of Ganoderma lucidum. The ingredients are edible linseed oil, extract essence from Ganoderma lucidum, beer yeast ( containing selenium ), mackerel peptide DHA, EPA, bracket fungus carbon powder, dextrin ( an encapsulant ), gelatin, glycerin, glycerol ester of fatty acid, and pullulan. The method for preservation is to avoid high temperature, high humidity, direct sunlight and keep under normal temperature.

Nutrition is important to relieve dementia.

Linseed oil or perilla contains alpha-linolenic acid, and blue- backed fish include DHA and EPA. They are called Omega-3 fatty acid, which decrease blood cholesterol and neutral fat to make smooth blood flow and bring positive effects to the brain. KOUKA contains them as ingredients.
